My first old door headboard

I was pretty excited to get my hands on another old door recently.  I wanted to try my hand at turning it into a headboard.  I did the entire thing all by myself without any help from my dear old hubby.  I was so pleased with the out come of it.
I used 1x4 boards for the legs.  But I am thinking that from now on I will be using 2x4 because they will make the legs feel a bit more sturdy.
I started out with a white door that had chipping paint.  I bought a piece of trim to go along the top of my headboard & used a 1x4 to cap off the top.  I then painting the entire headboard black.  Then over the top of the black I painted it all off white.  Once the paint had dried I sanded areas in a hit & miss fashion to give it a worn and old look.  Then I rubbed my gel stain all over it to give it a dirty/grungy look.  I made sure to leave a little extra stain in the cracks for a more aged look.
I am so pleased with the out come of this head board.  I can't wait to make many, many more to sell in our primitive shop.

Painting sign's is what really got me started.

Last fall I desided it was time for me to find some kind of job to help out with some of the bills that were piling up on us.  I knew I couldn't get a 9-5 job because we have 4 kids & I would be paying more in daycare & gas just so I could "work".  So my husband asked me what it was I liked to do & that's how this whole thing started.

I knew that I loved to paint & I was forever on the hunt for new primitive sign's everytime I was going into a primitive shop.  But I would rarely ever buy one because they were so expencive.   So for Christmas I used all of my family as guinea pig's & painted EVERYBODY sign's.  I had such a great reaction from them that it really encouraged me to try to sell them.

Within 1 month I had my little sign's in 5 different shop's & the rest is history.  I sell a lot of sign's to the local people in my surrounding area thru facebook.  I have yet to sell any that I will need to ship out.  I am not really interested in that just yet because I don't really have all the right boxes to be able to ship them.  Plus that would end up raising the cost of the product because they will also be paying a shipping cost as well.

I love this sign.  It is a pretty good seller for me.  I think that this statement is so true.
I love my Laundry room signs.  I used a sage green color here & put dark walnut gel stain over it.
This is a dark chocolate color & I actually have this one hanging in my own kitchen above one of my doors.
This is also one of my favorites.  But then again I love them all.

I was going for a little garden sign here & added some wild flower's on each corner.  I have made several different garden sign's.  I even have them hanging on my own picket fences outside.

My first cake candle

My first cake candle that I made.  I am excited to dive into making cake candles.  The girl I am buying my candles from for my shop doesn't make the cake candles.  So I desided to give it a try for myself.  I still have a few bugs to work out yet but I am very pleased with the end result of my first candle.

Starting my journey.

I am really excited & nervous about starting my adventure into the retail business.  I am so excited about being able to buy & sell all kinds of different primitives & rusty antiques.  But at the same time I REALLY don't want to come across as the "bless your heart" store in town.  I have been buying up stuff & getting my little stock pile of inventory ready for my big day that I am planning to opening on.  I am hoping to be ready to open by May 5th.  And that day keeps creeping closer & closer.

In the mean time I have been working on all my little project's that I am diving into.  Little lighted candle boxes, lighted mason jars, making cake candles, primitive signs, shelves, benches, ect...  I am really excited about taking some of the old rusty junk that I have managed to come across & turn them into something new & different.  Like taking a plain old box & adding a lighting kit & some berries for a fun new look.

I am really excited about the old door's that I have come across.  I am planning on turning them into headboards, benches & whatever else I can come up with.  I love taking something old & plain & turning it into something new & different.  I want to be unique with what i sell & not be the cookie cutter type.  It's way more fun to be different in all thing's you do in life.

I plan to post picture's of all my fun creations & even a few how to's here & there.  I want other's to be able to see what I am doing & go for it themselves.  I have learned several tricks & neat little short cuts off of reading other people's blog's.  I hope you can do the same from reading mine.
